Q. Could you share us your favorite technique?

A. Yes, it’s “Color blending”.

I often use water-based brush markers which gives transparent appearance when expressing words with a gentle atmosphere. I use the following color mixing technique to smooth out the border between colors. After all, using two or more colors rather than one gives a different impression to the artwork.

  • STEP 1:Making a rough draft

Draw a rough draft by Light Cool Gray.
This draft will be a guideline for the next painting.
By using the lightest color, it won't affect the color on top.

    STEP 1:Making a rough draft
  • STEP 2:Painting the first color

Paint on a clear plastic folder (or any material which repels water) to release the ink.
Pick up the ink with a brush and fill in the gray area.

    STEP 2:Painting the first color
  • STEP 3:Blending colors

Pick up the second color with a brush and paint it.
Blur the border between the two colors to create a smooth gradation.

    STEP 3:Blending colors
  • STEP 4:Decorating

・Add highlight with Gelly Roll White
    ・Draw shadows in gray color

    STEP 4:Decorating
